Through a new Marie Skłodowska-Curie project, InnoDC, launched in September 2017, 15 promising early career researchers from all over the world will receive training in a network of companies and universities. DTU Wind Energy is a part of the new project.

Europe’s power system has seen significant changed in recent decades, notably the development of renewable energy sources. However, this transition is far from complete, and further changes are essential to make our energy system ready to play its part in realising the climate goals set at COP21.

At present, renewable energy sources are increasing their share of electricity generation. This is particularly the case for offshore wind energy.

In order to meet future challenges, a new programme, Innovative Tools for Offshore Wind and DC Grids (InnoDC) have been launched.

Early career researchers will be trained
DTU Wind Energy and 13 other participants are a part of InnoDC. Together, the 14 participants prepare 15 early career researchers to play their role in the energy transition that will take place over the next 20-40 years.

The project will train the researchers in developing prototype tools to aid the developers and users of new energy systems.

Nicolaos Antonio Cutululis from DTU Wind Energy describes the project:

“This project builds upon the recently finalized Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN MEDOW project and it cements the leading role that DTU Wind Energy has in progressing offshore wind power and HVDC research in Europe and worldwide. Furthermore, it contributes to the education of the next generation of engineers and researchers for the future of offshore wind and HVDC, thus directly contributing to ensure a green future power system.”

This training network aims to train the researchers of the future in the pivotal sector of renewable energy and grid technology, which is largely led by research and industry. This project prepares the researchers of tomorrow to maintain Europe’s position of leadership in renewable, smart energy and tackling climate change.
