PhD student Juan-Andrés Pérez-Rúa wins a poster award at the conference.

CIGRE Symposium 2019

Tuesday 11 Jun 19

At the symposium, Juan-Andrés Pérez-Rúa won a poster award.

Offshore wind is one of the strategic focus of DTU Wind Energy. Thus, four young researchers from DTU presented their work at the annual CIGRE Symposium 2019 that took place in Aalborg last week. The theme of the conference was ‘Going offshore – challenges of the future power grid’.

Oscar Saborio-Romano and Ali Bidadfar talked about offshore wind and offshore HVDC grids, while Moumita Sarkar presented the impact of power fluctuations on reactive power capability of wind power plants.

Reducing the cost of offshore wind power is one of the main R&D drivers today. With the ambition of bringing direct contributions to this area, PhD student Juan-Andrés Pérez-Rúa presented his improved method for calculating power-transfer capability curves for offshore wind farm cables.

During the conference, the presentation and poster earned Juan-Andrés one of the young member paper award!

A happy Juan-Andrés says:

“Is it very motivating to get recognition of your work from such a prestigious organization as CIGRE, but it is even more rewarding to see all the interest around the methods we are developing for optimizing the electrical infrastructure in large offshore wind farms.”
