Today, DTU Wind Energy launches the latest version of the software, HAWC2 version 12.7.

HAWC2 version 12.7 was launched last week with some new features and various bug fixes.

One important new feature is the sparse matrix solver. Especially for models with a large number of constraint equations (e.g. models with lots of bodies) this could result in a significant reduction in the computation time.

David Robert Verelst, one of the people working with the HAWC2 software at DTU Wind Energy, encourages the users to start using the GTSDF (generalised time series data format) output format. The advantages of GTSDF compared to hawc_binary/ascii are:

  • one result file instead of two
  • compact and fast compared to ASCII
  • results available during simulation (similar to ASCII)
  • can handle large (> memory) result files (similar to ASCII)
  • improved precision

The HAWC2 manual has received various updates and fixes as well. For example, the sub-sections are back as pdf bookmarks in the document outline pane of your pdf viewer. Moving forward, HAWC2 and the manual will carry the same major.minor version number.

Towards the end of 2019, the HAWC2 development team will be working on releasing 64-bit Windows and 64-bit Linux versions of HAWC2 and accompanying DLLs. There are also model improvements being worked upon in various research projects.

A more detailed outlook on our development roadmap will follow later this year.
