For Katherine Dykes, the position as new Head of Section for Loads and Control at DTU Wind Energy meant that she had to move from USA to Denmark. Even though it sounds like a major change, she had thought about moving to Denmark for a while.

”I have not had time to breathe just yet,” she says with a smile from her new office at DTU Risø Campus.

Katherine Dykes, a US national woman from Ohio is ready to take on the world – in small steps. After working at The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) at the National Wind Technology Center (NWTC) in Boulder, Colorado for eight years, she was ready to take on new goals:

”My time at NREL started with a summer job. I just never left. During my time at NREL I have been working close with several of my new colleagues at DTU Wind Energy”

Leave or new job

Katherine Dykes tells, that she had been thinking about going to Denmark for quite some time.

”I have been out here at least once if not twice a year the last eight years,” she says and continues:

”I had thought about a sabbatical for a year, but the more I thought about it, I wanted a more permanent position and thus the management position opportunity appealed to me.”

The choice was made. Thus, Katherine Dykes did not hesitate, when DTU Wind Energy had the job opening.

“It does not feel very foreign from a work perspective. Of course, living in a new country is a big change, but I am excited about it.  I look forward to taking Danish classes and learning about Danish culture,” she finishes.
