The Bio4Self project from DTU Wind Energy received the prestigious award in Paris at the JEC show, the largest trade show for composite industry.

Together with the Bio4Self project group, development engineer at DTU Wind Energy, Justine Beauson received the JEC Innovation Award for the developed concept of a sustainable self-reinforced PLA composite material.

The materials developed in Bio4Self are fully bio-based, easily recyclable, reshapable and even industrially biodegradable. The composites are produced using one type of material: polylactic acid or PLA, a thermoplastic bio-polyester derived from renewable resources such as agricultural waste, non-food crops or sugar cane.

Justine Beauson, development engineer at the section for Composite Materials says:

"We are very happy for the project to get this recognition from the composite industry and community! We hope this will  attract further interest to use this type of fully biobased composite material.”
