World Bank alongside DTU Wind Energy will present the new Global Wind Atlas on 28 November 2017 in Amsterdam.
The New Global Wind Atlas, that is a free, web-based tool to help policymakers and investors identify potentially promising areas for wind power generation, virtually anywhere in the world will be presented soon.
On 28 November 2017, 16:00-17.30, World Bank and DTU Wind Energy will present Global Wind Atlas 2.0 (GWA 2.0). GWA 2.0 represents a major leap forward in the provision of free, high quality wind data aimed at both investors and policymakers, with a particular emphasis on developing country markets.
Global Wind Atlas 1.0 in 2015
A few years ago, in 2015, DTU and EUDP launched the first version of the Global Wind Atlas. It was highly demanded and used by many developing countries who was in search for knowledge about wind energy.
Though the Global Wind Atlas was used by many and very useful, this new Global Wind Atlas 2.0 take it a step further, describes Jake Badger, head of section and project leader from DTU Wind Energy:
"This new Global Wind Atlas is able to capture more mesoscale wind phenomena uses because 9 kilometre mesoscale simulation data are used to drive the microscale modelling. Further, it is more user friendly with a major new website. By coupling the Global Wind Atlas with the World Banks ESMAP wind mapping projects we will develop be new tools for validation and application of the wind climate data.”
The vision for the new Global Wind Atlas 2.0 is to support more derived datasets.
Global Wind Atlas 2.0. is a collaboration between DTU Wind Energy, World Bank, Vortex who provide the mesoscale modelling and Nazka Mapps, who develop the new website.
