Professor Nicolaos A. Cutululis introduces Chapter 6 'Power systems of the future with very large shares of renewable energy sources'. It's in "Perspectives on Wind Energy" (DTU International Energy Report). The chapter is written by Nicolaos Cutululis, Matti Koivisto and Kaushik Das.
Power systems, following some early-stage prototypes, evolved as synchronous systems with synchronous generators at their core and alternating current (AC) transmission and distribution to connect with the power system and deliver power. This fundamentally synchronous aspect of the power system dictates how it has been and pretty much still is planned and operated.
The report is edited by Peter Hauge Madsen, Kenneth Thomsen, Ignacio Marti Perez, Gregor Giebel, and Birte Holst Joergensen
